The Steps of Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Depleting Ozones Layers.

  • Ultraviolet light hits a molecule of chlorofluorocarbon and breaks off a chlorine atom.
  • The chlorine atom atacks an ozone molecule, pulling off an oxygen atom to form chlorine monoxide.
  • A free oxygen atom pulls the oxygen off the chloride monoxide, and releases chlorine.
  • The chlorine atom is now free to attack another ozone molecule and begin the cycle again.
